the Wildwood Open at Continental Country Club in Wildwood, Fl. I played solid
shooting 72, 71 (-1) finishing in the money but could not make enough birdies
to finish high on the leader board. Anytime you can finish a tournament under par it is always a success and a step in the right direction.
On February 27th, I flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico to
compete in my first Monday Qualifier for a PGA Tour Event. It
was a unique experience getting my feet wet in this type of atmosphere. These
qualifiers are different than a typical multiple round event. It is critical to
get off to a good start as 4-6 under par is usually what it takes to qualify. In
my first qualifier in Puerto Rico I got off to a good start and was 3 under par
through 9 holes and in a great position to have an opportunity to qualify.
Unfortunately, I was unable to keep up the good play during my last 9 holes and
did not qualify. In my second qualifier, I got off to a tough start and had to
try and force the issue to make some birdies but was unable to get anything
going. Nonetheless, these qualifiers were a great experience and will
certainly be beneficial to me in future events.
This past weekend I competed on the Florida Pro Tour in the Ocala
Open and missed out on placing in the money by two shots with rounds of 70, 76
(+4). I felt like I played much better than my scores indicated as my ball
striking was extremely efficient. With windy conditions and grainy greens I
struggled on the greens and gave away to many shots with the
putter.
I am confident that if I continue to hit the ball the way I have
red numbers and high finishes are to come.
Until next time,
Josh
